Lobdon - The UK government has lifted nearly all Covid-19 restrictions today (19/7/2021), although the decision has been condemned by scientists and the opposition. Some media outlets refer to this day as “Freedom Day.”
According to NDTV, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is self-isolating after coming into close contact with the health minister who tested positive for Covid-19, urged the public to remain vigilant and vaccinate.
Currently, about two-thirds of adults have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the UK.
"Please, please, please, be careful," Johnson said.
“Proceed to the next step with caution and respect for others. The risk of disease persists and, above all, please when you are asked to receive a second vaccine … please come and do it (vaccination).”
The World of Buzz reports that although the UK's daily Covid-19 cases reach 50,000, people don't need to wear masks or practice social distancing.
Gatherings will be allowed without any restrictions on the number of people attending the event.
"If we don't do it (easing) now, then we'll be opening up in the fall, winter months when the virus has the advantage of cold weather," Johnson said.
“If we don't do it now, we have to ask ourselves, when will we do it? So it's a good time, but we have to do it carefully."
According to the BBC, here are the UK Covid-19 restrictions lifted as of today Monday 19 July 2021:
Social distance
There is no limit to how many people can meet.
The one meter physical distance rule is removed (except in some places like hospitals and passport checks upon entry).
Masks are no longer required by law, although the government still "expects and recommends" their use in crowded and closed places.
Some shops and transport operators still require masks.
Events and meetings
Nightclubs may reopen.
Pubs and restaurants are no longer just serving at the table.
There is no limit on guests at weddings and funerals.
There are no restrictions on people attending concerts, theaters or sporting events.
There is no prohibition against worshiping together.
Travel
The guide that recommended not to travel to yellowlisted countries was removed. (Those returning from France to England, Wales and Scotland must still be quarantined for 10 days).
Individuals under 18 and fully vaccinated adults no longer have to self-isolate after visiting yellow-listed countries.
Other changes
Restrictions on visitors to nursing homes will be removed.
Starting August 16, most Covid-19 restrictions in schools, including the "bubble" region, will end.
From the same date, fully vaccinated adults do not need to self-isolate after contact with a positive case.
Meanwhile, people should continue to meet other people outdoors whenever possible.
Businesses such as nightclubs and large events will be encouraged to use the NHS "Covid Pass", to check whether people have been fully vaccinated. However, it's not illegal if they don't.
In addition, people who work from home will be encouraged to return to the workplace gradually.
